Zeal and Truth

I feel like this book is and isn't for everyone. It only speaks Biblical truth. The entire book is filled with scripture. The reader has to have Zeal to read this and follow it. Since its all scripture, you would have to believe it all or not at all. Just like with the Bible, we can't just pick parts. That's tough.

Good text, but requires prior knowledge

I found this text to be well-written and very thorough at describing certain biochemical and physiological processes of the eye. However, even though each chapter has basic introductory information about each topic (enzymes, carbohydrates, lipids, etc), this should not be used in a setting in which students have not had prior coursework in biochem. If this is the case, another more detailed textbook should be used in conjunction.

The mask's legendary curse soon kicks in: at its unveiling, an uninvited Iraqi insists that it was among the treasures taken by looters from Baghdad's National Museum of Antiquities following Saddam's downfall. With her job, reputation and even freedom (the FBI thinks she's in on the fraud) on the line, Madison sets out to unmask the looters, which turns out to be a very unsafe undertaking indeed. The incestuous, fiercely competitive antiquities world makes for an intriguing setup, but Podrug's execution is clunky. The action is improbable, the dialogue hackneyed, the sex (a Robbins hallmark) pedestrian and scarce. Status-obsessed Madison is hardly likable. Robbins died in 1997; it may be time to let him rest. Movie Franchise!

Phenomenal book centering around Madison Dupre, an ambitious art curator, who is climbing her way to the top of the unscrupulous world of art & antiquities. Just as Madison is reaching the pinnacle of her career, she buys what turns out to be a looted piece of valuable Mesopotamian art - making her purchase a crime and ruining her reputation. Her only way out is to "unmask" whoever has set her up. When those around her start dying, the real action begins...as she runs for her life, racing to find the perpetrators before they find her.

Rarely do we see such a strong, yet vulnerable anti-hero like Madison Dupre. When we do, it makes you wonder why we don't see more characters like Madison as the basis for great TV series or movie franchise. In this case, someone should not miss the opportunity!!

The Looters is both exciting and educational. The buildup of compressed tension in the first half of the book was extraordinary, while the unraveling of the plot was skillful, interesting and well thought out. I found the insight into archeological colleactibles interesting compensation for an educational hiatus. Don't believe those claiming this books is replete with sex and violence. True, there is some violence, but it is the validated threat of violence which helps produce tension. I must have missed the steamy sex scenes, while recalling more reference to sex than participation, and vocalizing a hurrah! for the author's prescient awareness that our choice of sexual partners is neither rational nor predicatable. One of the few books I can recommend witout reservation. Enjoy!

The book is overpriced in my opinion (it should be in the $10 or less range). Most of the information in the book was painfully obvious to me. I spent about 30 minutes reading the book and it has been on my shelf since then. It might be useful for someone who knows absolutely nothing about recruiting (and I am no expert), but for me there wasn't much I learned from the book.

Interesting and relevant.

Some people are naturally gifted with charisma. They effortlessly grab people's attention and talk to complete strangers with ease. This book is for the rest of us: those who feel awkward approaching strangers, unsure of the protocol and apprehensive about following up. This book is a fascinating look at networking for the MBA student, broken down into step by step instructions. From the uncertainty of first impressions to the proper procedure for follow up communications, every interaction is laid out in an entertaining, easy to follow way.

This book is specifically written with the MBA student in mind, but any professional looking to get ahead can utilize the system outlined in this book. I know first hand that networking is a vital part of the arts community, as much of our funding comes from private donors and grants. I'm always working to improve my skills as my livelihood can literally depend on my contacts.

This book has definitely done a lot to prepare me for business school. It is an excellent look at the methodology behind business interactions, detailing the processes of forming, cultivating and maximizing connections. I would recommend this book to any prospective MBA student or professional.

Decent read by a backpacker who experienced some horrific things

Good book. This travel read, of course, is all true and actually happened. These guys took risks and experienced tragedy. It's a good read for someone who is interested to travel to Thailand's beaches---know what things to avoid.

Oddly Inspirational

With its laddish overtones, ribald; almost crass style, I wanted to dislike this one from the start. The trouble was I could not put it down. It's all those things I always believed makes for a bad read - bad grammer, worse punctuation, simple and linear plot - and yet here I am giving the damn thing the thumbs up. The reason being, I think, is that John, the hapless protagonist, conveys his story to us without the usual analysis. It's writing brfore writing became so self-concious.

This book kept me on my toes throughout the whole read. I tried to read as little as I could, so that the experience could last longer, but I was unable to put it down.

If your into spontaneous adventure, with tales of danger along the way, throughout south east asia, australia and hong kong, then this book is your you.
