Disappointing
By Horizon
I applaud the desire to make Shakespeare available to a larger audience by offering translations of the plays that anyone can read. It is indeed rather tiresome to have the text you're reading constantly interrupted by asterisk with a word of translation every inch or two of text, and forced to scan the page from top to bottom, and try to start again from where you were reading while keeping the thought going. This is why such works as Pelican Shakespeare can be rather exasperating, so one welcomes the arrival of a full, uninterrupted text accompanied with a likewise full and uninterrupted translation.
This book, however, only adds to the problem.
For example, consider this sample:
He's bolder than the devil, but not as smart. My bravery's been tainted
Bolder though not so subtle. My valour's poisoned
because I he keeps hurting me. That bad side of it is going
With only suffering stain by him; for him
to come out for him. I won't stop hating Marcius for any of the following reasons:
Shall fly out of itself; not sleep nor sanctuary
This is but a tiny portion of a large section. The translations are in italics, but that does not help. The book does not allow the expression of a complete thought, constantly interrupting itself, constantly mixing text and translation to the point that a single paragraph requires multiple re-readings. This is maddening.
As I said, I applaud the effort to make Shakespeare generally available. Even so, this is no way to do it. Turning text and translation into a chaos of intermixed sentences and paragraphs makes a mess of both. I don't know who decided this would be a good idea, but believe me, it isn't. I will never buy a book of this series again without first checking to see that this truly bad idea of presentation is not repeated.

Too Many Typos
By Emily
I haven't gone through all of the text yet. I found the comparative text too hard to read, it is one line of the modern text in italics and one line of the original text in standard font. If the difference in the fonts were stronger it might be easier to follow one version or another but I just found it distracting and cumbersome. I went on to just the modern version of the text and there are just too many typos. Words are left out or misspelled, the wrong tense is used. There are also a few times that the passage is written like the comparative text, with the original and modern texts following each other line for line but without the benefit of a difference (even minor) in font.

at times confusing but good
By yareader
I really liked this option. I don't think I could have finished reading the play in the first place without it. However, I did find it a bit difficult at times to distinguish between the type of letter for the modern version and the original one. That was the only problem, really. I'm already thinking of what play I'll read next in this format.
