Morihei Ueshiba's teachings about The Art of Peace bring to balance and equilibrium two extreme entities in oriental martial arts philosophy, being in the other end Sun Tzu's masterpiece The Art of War. This book reflects the different fascinating paths taken by Moriehi towards an encounter with himself, the martial arts that he developed, and his unique understanding of the universe.

My Favorite Aikido Book by Far!

John Stevens, who I must admit has written many great Aikido books, outdoes himself with this book. With a feeling of actual fondness, Stevens seems to capture Founder Morihei's human side without in any way diminishing his almost supernatural presence. This is a must read for any follower of the art.

Sweet and All Round Good Story

Honestly, I thought A Wing & A Prayer as a sweet and all round good story. You have Jo, a mother, who is trying her best to take of her son, even when it's not the easiest thing to do. You have Dylan, who has taken time of his busy schedule to fly Jo and her son to Baltimore for medical treatment. It's just a feel good story about hope and kindness. Of course there is a little romance that buds between Dylan and Jo, it does hit a little bump. However, by the end you have that happy ending that gives you the warm and fuzzy feeling. Plus, it's a quick free read.

short, clean, cute romance

This was a short, cute, clean romance. It was almost more a plug for the generous people that fly children to doctors and health care that otherwise would not be able to get that care. He is a millionaire pilot that owns his own fleet of jets and his own business. She is a single mother with a young son that has cancer. The dad ran out of them so it left her with the sole responsibility of taking care of her son on a teacher's salary. I guess this was before Obama care!! He flies them from St. Simon's, Ga. to Baltimore and over the period of time he falls for the young mother and her son.

However, he lives in Atlanta and he is a businessman so he is unable to spend much time with them. She ends things because it will never work and she doesn't want her son getting too attached to the handsome pilot. A little drama, and they get their HEA. It was a bit predictable but still a cute story. I would recommend it for a quick read.

What a sweet story!!!

I'm a sucker for books involving children, but add in a child who is struggling with their health, and I'm sold!

Jo is a single mom who is doing everything she can to make sure her son, Zack, has the best healthcare and life while he lives day to day with cancer. She finds a bond with pilot/millionaire Dylan.

Dylan is there to simply help get Zack to and from the hospital, but he can't help but feel a pull to this mother and son duo. He can't stay away.

"Why are you here? Shouldn't you be on a plane back to Georgia by now?"
"I decided to stay today and make sure Zack got through his surgery okay. To make sure you got through his surgery okay."
"You don't have any place more important to be? I mean, I know you have a company to run."
"Not at all. There's no place more important to be than right here, right now. With you."

This was honestly one of the sweetest stories I've read in a while. It was short, simple, and to the point. All the feels! Heartwarming!

I'm exciting to read more from this author!

"Zack was brave and it inspired Dylan to be brave as well."

About the Author

Robert DiGiulio is Education Professor at Johnson State College in Vermont. He earned his Ph.D. in human development from the University of Connecticut, and recently earned his D.Ed. in socio-education from the University of South Africa. He began his teaching career in the New York City public school system, where he taught for a number of years. His 33-year career as an educator includes teaching at the elementary, middle, junior high and college levels, with experience ranging from crowded urban schools to a one-room schoolhouse. He has also served as a school principal educational researcher, consultant, and writer.

As an educational consultant, he co-developed Teen Test, a vocational counseling program for adolescents. He coauthored educational computer software called Language Activities Courseware and authored its teachers guide. His Teacher magazine article The Guaranteed Behavior Improvement Plan was recognized as having one of the highest total readership scores of any of that magazines articles.

He has authored numerous books including When You Are a Single Parent, Effective Parenting, Beyond Widowhood, and After Loss, selected by Readers Digest as their featured condensed book in May 1994. He is a contributing author to The Oxford Companion to Womens Writing in the United States, and Marriage and Family in a Changing Society, and is the coauthor of Straight Talk about Death and Dying.

Most recently, he has written Nonviolent Interventions in Secondary Schools: Administrative Perspectives, a chapter in Peacebuilding for Adolescents: Strategies for Educators and Community Leaders, edited by Ian H. Harris and Linda R. Forcey. Dr. DiGiulio's most recent books are Great Teaching: What Matters Most in Helping Students Succeed, Educate, Medicate, or Litigate? What Teachers, Parents, and Administrators Must Do About Student Behavior, and Positive Classroom Management: A Step-by-Step Guide to Successfully Running the Show Without Destroying Student Dignity, both published by Corwin Press.

Dr. DiGiulio's interests include international education, child behavior, and teacher education. He won a 2002-2003 Fulbright Scholar Award to the University of Jyvaskyla in Finland. He was a Delegate to the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) 2003 Conference on Teaching and Learning for Intercultural Understanding. Dr. DiGiulio is also a member of the Vermont Society for the Study of Education, and serves on the Project Harmonys Advisory Board on Education Programs. He resides with his family in northern Vermont.

PCM is a MUST Read for All Educators

This book is a great read for all prospective teachers, as well as educators currently in the field. It focuses on implementing several forms of management, including: assertive discipline and disciplining with dignity. The 3 axioms for student success (relatable to Vygotsky's ZPD) are crucial to building a positive classroom. Management techniques are focused on the student, and all suggestions are a direct result of the Constructivist theory. I would highly recommend this book!

It is a very practical book, and it helped me greatly during my second year of teaching. The checklists were easy to use, and very complete. I recommend Dr. DiGiulio's book to any teacher, new or experienced.
